Equality and Diversity Policy

The MSSC is an inclusive organisation that helps young people and professional seafarers to achieve their potential by offering a range of social and educational opportunities. It is committed to equality of opportunity for young people and adults alike. As such, no young person or adult should receive less favourable treatment, be excluded from benefiting from our services, nor suffer disadvantage by reason of: class; ethnic origin, nationality or race; gender; age; marital or sexual status; mental or physical ability; political or religious belief.

Sea Cadets is open to all regardless of sex, religion and race and, within the bounds of safety to themselves and others, to those with special needs. We are proud of the different backgrounds that cadets come from - quite often from the most disadvantaged circumstances. We seek to ensure that there are no barriers for young people to have the opportunity to be a Sea Cadet. The organisation is committed to a programme of continuous review and action to ensure that these policies remain effective.

The MSSC bases its approach to diversity on the principle of inclusion. It actively seeks to widen the diversity of its intake of both adults and young people and thereby contribute to the development of multicultural communities. The charity recognises diversity within its workforce and values this as a strength of the organisation. It endeavours to meet the different needs and expectations of all.  Within the context of the charity diversity covers race, gender and disability and other factors such as age, marital status, religion, background and work style.
